On March 31, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the release of $349,205,436 for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Continuum of Care (CoC) renewal funding for the 622 projects that expired in the first quarter of 2026.
In February, as part of the FY 2026 appropriations process, Congress directed HUD to automatically renew CoC grants expiring in quarter one of 2026 for 12 months, including Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program grants. Congress further directed that if HUD has not issued awards under an updated FY 2025 CoC Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) by April 1, 2026, then it must automatically renew CoCs expiring in quarter two. And finally, if HUD has not issued awards by July 1, 2026, then it must automatically renew CoCs expiring in quarters three and four.
Renewals for CoCs expiring in quarter two are also expected, since HUD has yet to release an updated FY 2025 CoC NOFO, due to ongoing litigation.
