Every year, National Network for Youth (NN4Y) hosts the National Summit on Youth Homelessness + Hill Day in Washington D.C. Our 2026 Summit is March 12-13, 2026, bringing together service providers, youth advocates, homeless liaisons, policymakers, and other passionate individuals. Together, we will advance solutions that ensure all young people have a safe place to call home.
Hill Day is the first day of Summit (March 12, 2026). On Hill Day, attendees have the opportunity to speak directly with their Members of Congress about our collective policy agenda to prevent and end youth homelessness. NN4Y provides you with everything you need to have a successful meeting, including assistance in scheduling meetings and providing detailed fact sheets with specific legislative asks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Hill Day is open to all Summit attendees. You will plan for and go to meetings with other attendees from your state. If you have not been connected with your state team, please email trinady.maddock@nn4youth.org.
Hill Day will take place on March 12, 2026. The bulk of your meetings should be scheduled between 1:00 – 4:00 PM Eastern, but sometimes people have meetings before or after.
Your meetings will take place in your lawmakers’ D.C. offices on Capitol Hill. The Senate office buildings are called Dirksen, Hart, and Russell. The House office buildings are called Cannon, Ford, Longworth, O’Neill, and Rayburn. Most Hill Day attendees meet their state team in the Summit hotel (Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill) and walk or ride share over to Capitol Hill together. Meetings can also be held virtually.
You should plan for at least three—one meeting each for your two Senators and your one House Representative.
If you are registered for Summit and indicated that you are attending Hill Day, you should have received an email connecting you with your state team. If you haven’t, email trinady.maddock@nn4youth.org. Larger state teams have a designated State Captain who will help you schedule and prepare for meetings with your Senators and your House Representative. Other state teams will work with NN4Y’s policy team to schedule and prepare. See the resources below for template emails, meeting agendas, and more information about scheduling and preparing for a successful meeting.
It depends. When scheduling, we ask for the lawmaker to join the meeting, but they aren’t always available. If your lawmaker doesn’t show up, don’t worry—staff-level meetings are normal and just as important.
Our Shared Policy Goals
RHYTPA reauthorizes and updates the current Runaway and Homeless Youth Act program.
HCYA aligns the federal definitions of homelessness.
HHSA allows college students and student veterans who have experienced homelessness to live in affordable housing funded by the Low Income Housing Tax Credit while remaining in school full-time.
Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations should award more funding to the life-saving programs that help youth, young adults, and young parent families experiencing homelessness.
