On December 20, 2024, the House and Senate passed a temporary spending bill that keeps federal programs running at the same funding levels from the previous fiscal year, also known as a continuing resolution (CR). This CR pushes the deadline to pass new funding bills into March 14, 2025.
This CR is a temporary spending measure. Congress still needs to negotiate and pass all twelve Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 appropriations bills, which will fund the government for the majority of 2025.
For now, the federal programs that directly impact youth, young adults, and young parent families experiencing homelessness will continue to operate at their current FY24 funding levels, including Runaway and Homeless Youth Act programs and the Education for Homeless Children and Youth program.
Congress will continue negotiations for the FY25 appropriations bills after the CR is signed into law. The National Network for Youth will continue to advocate for the final bills to maintain the important report language updates that were included in the Senate’s proposed bills.
