Dear fellow advocates for youth experiencing homelessness,
We are writing to announce the release of the evidence-based Guidelines to Prevent, Address, and End Youth Homelessness. We created the Guidelines by conducting an extensive review of 204 documents, including local and state plans, policy briefs, and relevant peer-reviewed documents. We solicited and edited our findings based on input from youth leaders with lived expertise in youth homelessness, youth advocates, service providers, public servants at the Continuum of Care, municipal or county level, and subject matter experts.
The Guidelines to Prevent, Address, and End Youth Homelessness are structured to serve as a resource not only for local jurisdictions in California, but also for public servants at the local, state and federal level, as well as for youth advocates and providers. The Guidelines serve as a comprehensive roadmap of interventions that communities can adapt to their specific contexts and needs.
We are Youth and Allies Against Homelessness (YAAH) – a research team based in Innovations for Youth (i4Y) at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health. Our lab includes graduate and undergraduate students with lived experience of homelessness and/or demonstrated commitment to serving youth experiencing homelessness (YEH), paid community interns with lived experience of homelessness, and the YAAH Research Coordinator, Maddy Cuyler, under the guidance of Prof. Coco Auerswald.
The Guidelines are a part of our ongoing evaluation of the Homeless Housing and Prevention (HHAP) youth-set-aside funds funded by the California Interagency Council on Homelessness. Our partners include the California Homeless Youth Project and the California Coalition for Youth.
We will be hosting a webinar on March 11th, 2024 from 4:00 to 5:00 EST/1:00 to 2:00 PM PST. Please click here to register for the event. The recording will be posted on our website soon after the webinar concludes.
