Left to Right: Isaiah, 2019 and Dashone, 2020
The National Network for Youth was honored to be invited to attend Kate Capshaw’s first solo exhibition on February 16, 2023 in Columbus, Georgia. Kate painted portraits of youth who experienced homelessness. These young people were served by five NN4Y partner’s who provide housing and services to youth experiencing homelessness in different communities across the United States. She began this artistic collaboration as part of her inquiry into the invisibility of youth experiencing homelessness.
This exhibition is entitled Unaccompanied because all of the participating youth experienced homelessness unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. This exhibition included portraits of youth as well as an audio exhibit that featured the ideas and experiences of youth who experienced homelessness in their own voices.
Our Executive Director, Darla Bardine, was honored to spend time with some of the youth who had their portraits painted, as well as the youth providers that served these young people.
Darla was also honored to attend an Artist Talk moderated by artist Amy Sherald. Learn more about this event and see photos from the exhibition.
