This session will demonstrate a process and approach for addressing Racial Equity within your organization. Racial Equity can be uncomfortable to discuss. Yet, it has implications for staff across every level of the organization and, most notably, the engagement of youth and young adults. Assessing the culture of one’s organization can be intimidating and yet creates opportunities to advance to policies and systemic change within the organization that can permeate throughout the community.

By sharing Lighthouse Youth and Family Services’ journey to build an Equitable culture through an internal assessment and implementation at all levels. Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, a Core Team representative of employees will help participants develop a plan of action for their organizations. Many Racial Equity trainings provide the theoretical constructs of Racial Equity. Still, they may not provide organizations with the tools or processes to implement equitable conversations, policies, and practices within their organizations. This session will demonstrate a practical application and process for doing so.

Attendees will leave with the following strategies:

  1. Strategies engage employees at all levels to discuss racial and other forms of Equity
  2. Strategies to implement and engage a Racial Equity Core Team
  3. Use assessment tools and focus groups on guiding conversations and planning
  4. Evaluate the use of a consultant; solutions when the cost is a constraint
  5. Review and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data from a variety of sources the organization may have
  6. Strategies to overcome fears about starting difficult conversations.
