Tara James, Project Director for the National Network for Youth, has been chosen to attend 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs’ Summit in Washington, DC on July 14 and 15, 2009.  Selected from hundreds of applicants, Tara will join 150 fellow representatives of the Millennial generation to discuss the incredible challenges facing youth seeking employment today.  Speakers at the Summit will include former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, former Congressman Lee Hamilton, and Judy Woodruff of the Newshour.

We want to ensure that Tara is able to carry a clear message to the Summit about the unique issues facing RHY in seeking employment and to that we need your help.  Contact Tara directly at tjames@nn4youth.org if you have specific ideas or stories you want to share.

You can also read Tara’s blogs about the Summit on YouthSpace before, during, and after the event.

About 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs

Educated but employed, nearly 87 percent of the Millennial generation holds a high school diploma and nearly 30 percent holds a bachelor’s degree or higher.  It’s still not enough.  With tens of thousands of dollars in debt from student loans and credit cards, young people need jobs, yet in times like these the newly graduated are forced to compete with more experienced workers for even the most entry-level positions.  80 Million Strong plans to:

  • Convene a summit of young people in Washington, DC on July 14 and 15, 2009 to discuss this problem and propose solutions
  • Develop federal legislation based on the summit’s recommendations
  • Build a grassroots coalition that truly reflects and empowers the Millennial generation
